EPIC: Empowered Performers in Conversation

The Huntington’s Education Department believes in the power of theatre to serve as a medium for social justice and to amplify voices of community members. EPIC: Empowered Performers in Conversation, provides a forum in which participants cultivate their own creative power and use artistic expression to explore and discuss issues of importance to them; the Education Department maintains future plans to expand cohort offerings in an effort to reach as many people as possible. The Huntington is pleased to announce that both EPIC: Youth & EPIC: Elders will resume in fall of 2023.

EPIC: Youth

EPIC: Youth is an in-school residency program serving students in greater Boston. The program offers students who are interested in playwriting, acting, and directing an opportunity to create their own performance pieces. Education staff guide students through research, discussion, writing exercises, ensemble building, actor training and eventually, the creation of an original devised production. The program will culminate in a public performance followed by a post-show with the cast and creative team with the goal of engaging in a conversation with audience members about the student’s experiences, as well as the themes and content of the show.

EPIC: Elders

EPIC: Elders is a community-based program serving adults in the greater Boston area, including but not limited to Senior Centers, Councils on Aging, Nursing Homes and other local activity centers. Participants with an interest in theatre arts will explore the devising process and contribute to the creation of an original piece of theatre to be shared with a larger audience at the conclusion of the program.
