THE HUNTINGTON ANNOUNCES THE CAST AND CREATIVE TEAM OF JONATHAN SPECTOR’S TONY-WINNING SATIRE EUREKA DAY

Following acclaimed runs on Broadway and in London, Jonathan Spector’s wildly funny satire arrives at The Huntington in a new production

(BOSTON) – The Huntington announces the cast and creative team of Eureka Day, a biting and timely satire by Jonathan Spector and directed by Margot Bordelon (John Proctor is the Villain). Eureka Day runs at The Huntington from Thursday, May 28 – Sunday, June 28, 2026 at the Huntington Theatre (264 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA, 02115).

Hot from celebrated productions on Broadway and in London, Eureka Day is a new, wildly funny, on-the-pulse satire which asks if parents at a progressive, welcoming private school can uphold their harmonious shared values when Eureka Day faces an outbreak of the mumps. Jonathan Spector’s sharp comedy explores in surprising turns what happens when facts become subjective, when inclusivity turns performative, and a “community activated conversation” turns into an all-out brawl – with uproarious, fresh, and thought-provoking results. Margot Bordelon returns to direct following her hit production of John Proctor is the Villain.

“When I saw this premiere in Berkeley, pre-pandemic, I thought it was for parents like me – who had a child inside the Bay Area’s vast array of tremendous, yet precious and privileged, independent schools – and it gave us a chance to laugh at ourselves,” says Huntington Artistic Director Loretta Greco. “It’s still a chance to laugh at ourselves and at how quickly our best intentions can go awry – but also to ask knotty questions in real time about how to compassionately balance the needs of individuals with the larger needs of the collective within society. Eureka Day was a hot ticket on Broadway last season, and we are thrilled to create our own spectacular production, which promises to be as thought-provoking as it is hilarious.”

Called “gaspingly funny!” by New York Magazine and “a shiny, insightful, and damn funny little gem. One of the best plays of the season” by Deadline, Eureka Day was originally commissioned and produced in April 2018 by Aurora Theatre Company in Berkeley, California. It premiered on the West End in 2022 and its 2024 Broadway production won the 2025 Tony Award for “Best Revival of a Play.” Reflecting tensions that we all feel (between good intentions and miscommunication, between values-driven culture and self-righteousness), Eureka Day is not just about vaccines – it’s about how we talk (or fail to) when we disagree. The New York Times lauds it as “the perfect play for our age of disagreement.”

“I’m thrilled to get to share this play with Huntington audiences,” says playwright Jonathan Spector. “Eureka Day explores, among other things, the dangers of vaccine misinformation, and the challenge of forming any kind of civil society when people cannot agree on baseline truth. When I sat down to write this play seven years ago, I could never have fathomed these would be issues that hit so close to home for so many of us. Unfortunately, here we are.”

This production also marks director Margot Bordelon’s return to Boston after her recent, celebrated direction of The Huntington’s 2024 production of John Proctor is the Villain, which received the Elliot Norton Award for “Outstanding Play” and “Outstanding Ensemble.” Broadway World celebrated her “inspired direction” of that production; now, with Eureka Day, audiences can expect the same deft touch in a smart, hilarious, and painfully relatable comedy set in progressive communities that may feel strikingly close to home for Greater Boston audiences.

The cast of Eureka Day includes:

Ken Cheeseman as Don, head of school. Credits include Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and Ether Dome at The Huntington, and The Cherry Orchard and Scapin Off Broadway.
