Seduction and Domination in Venus in Fur

Venus in Fur's Andrea Syglowski ("Vanda") and director Daniel Goldstein speak with Anthony Brooks and Meghna Chakrabarti on WBUR 90.9 Radio Boston. Original airdate: January 9, 2014.

From WBUR:

Leather, lingerie and a dog collar — that’s what the character of Vanda wears throughout most of the Huntington Theatre Company’s production of Venus in Fur, which is playing through early February. Vanda is an aspiring actress who shows up late for an audition and then tangles with the director, Thomas, for the next 90 minutes.

Based loosely on David Ives’ 19th-century erotic novella, Venus in Furs, the play is all about seduction, submission and domination. But what makes it great drama is that it’s never quite clear who’s being seduced, who’s being dominated and who holds the power.
