About Romeo and Juliet

The most famous love story of all time – and the most moving tale of an ill-fated romance ever told – Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet comes to the Huntington Theatre Company as a thrillingly modern event helmed by Artistic Director Peter DuBois. This astoundingly current, gorgeously realized production nods to the political fractures of our current era, the cultural differences that pull us apart, and the enduring power of passion. If you think you know Romeo and Juliet, you’ve never seen anything like this… and you’ll feel the power of the world’s greatest writer in a whole new way.

Approximate run time: Romeo and Juliet plays in approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes, with one ten-minute intermission. Please note: This production uses flashing lights, extensive haze, and latex balloons that may fall off the front of the stage. There will be live blank ammunition shot onstage at the end of Act I and Act II. Read more on the content warnings for this production.

Peter DuBois“I had the time of my life directing Romeo and Juliet in Alaska, and I knew this was the moment to return to Shakespeare’s most moving play. Shakespeare explores the peril of a society possessed by blind tribalism against a love story that has a boundless sense of joy and abandon. This production will show off Boston’s wealth of Shakespearean talent and some incredible performers from across the country.” — Peter DuBois
