Send in the Clowns

Stephen Sondheim’s classic song, “Send in the Clowns,” is his most famous for good reason – the slow melody reflects its somber message about lost love. Desiree Armfedlt, a successful actress, sings the ballad in Act II after being rejected by her former lover Fredrick Egerman. Sondheim’s powerful lyrics have prompted many artists to take a stab at their own versions. Who is your favorite?
