The Huntington in the 45th Annual Pride Parade

by:  Sabrina Katz at 06/15/2015

The Huntington and Company One Theatre celebrated the plays of A. Rey Pamatmat at the Boston Pride Parade & Festival on Saturday, June 13. Marketing intern Sabrina Katz recaps her first Pride experience and what it was like to be a part of the festivities.

I’m so proud to have been a part of Boston’s 45th annual Pride Parade & Festival! The festival and parade is a fun way for people around the city and country to celebrate their support for social equality.

I arrived early at City Hall Plaza and was delighted to see tons of groups like Human Rights Campaign, Planned Parenthood, and dozens of LGBTQ groups from New England.

After setting up our booth with Company One Theatre, we were ready to celebrate Playwright A. Rey Pamatmat. The Huntington and Company One Theatre are currently producing two plays by Rey, and both shows are playing at the Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA. The Huntington’s after all the terrible things I do runs through June 21 and Company One Theatre’s Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them runs through June 27. See: matching t-shirts and Pamatmat fans!

Once I put on my t-shirt, I was ready to go! After the music started, more and more festival goers arrived and we were able to talk to a lot of great folks. We handed out tons of fans (a great relief from the summer afternoon heat) and pins and marveled in the amount of pride we saw. Even a couple of days later, I’m still seeing rainbows!

By the end of the day, you could see our blue Pamatmat fans every which way you looked and it was a great feeling seeing our playwright all around the festival!

Seeing so much diversity and meeting new people was amazing. We were all there to celebrate one thing – LOVE and our freedom to express it.

Thanks to everyone for making my first experience such a memorable one!
