Robert O'Hara

Robert O’Hara previously directed the Huntington's production Merit (2014) as part of the Breaking Ground festival of new plays. Mr. O'Hara received the NAACP Best Director Award for his direction of Eclipsed by Danai Guiria. He received the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding New Play for Antebellum and an OBIE Award for his direction of the world premiere In the Continuum. He wrote and directed the world premiere of Insurrection: Holding History (The Public Theater, Oppenheimer Award). He directed the world premiere of Tarell McCraney’s Brother/Sister Plays (Part 2), a co-production with McCarter Theatre and The Public Theater. His recent work includes directing his play, BootyCandy (The Wilma Theater), the world premiere of Colman Domingo’s Wild with Happy (The Public Theater), and Katori Hall’s The Mountaintop (Alley Theatre and Arena Stage). He is currently an adjunct professor at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and the Mellon Playwright-in-Residence at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company.
