James Youmans

James Youmans previously designed the set for Ether Dome (2014) and The Shaughraun (1998) at the Huntington for which he won an IRNE Award. His Broadway credits include West Side Story, Come Fly Away (directed and choreographed by Twyla Tharp), Gypsy with Patti LuPone, and Swinging On a Star. His Off Broadway work includes Gypsy (New York City Center’s Encores!); Hedwig and the Angry Inch (original production scenery and projections); Almost, Maine; Elizabeth Egloff’s The Swan; Summer of ‘42; Zombie Prom; Jeffrey; and The Country Club. Regionally he has worked at La Jolla Playhouse, Guthrie Theater, South Coast Repertory, The Old Globe, George Street Playhouse, Seattle Repertory Theatre, McCarter Theatre, Hartford Stage, Goodspeed Opera House, and Long Wharf Theatre. His awards include a Drama Desk Award nomination, a Drama-Logue Award, an IRNE Award, a Connecticut Critics Circle Award nomination, and two Telly Awards for Broadcast Design. He is married to the Ether Dome creator Elizabeth Egloff, and they have two children, William and Timur.
