Artistic Apprenticeships

Phaedra T and Lizzy

Phaedra, the 2015-2016 Literary Apprentice and Tonasia, the 2015-2016 Producing Apprentice discuss the artistic process as 2015-2016 Lizzy the Development apprentice looks on.

Artistic Producing/Casting: This apprentice works closely with our Associate Producer helping in all aspects of line producing the season, assist with local casting calls, and take an active role in our 35 Below program.

  • Cover Letters and Recommendations may be addressed to Rebecca Bradshaw.

Literary:  This apprentice gathers research for all season productions; assembles dramaturgical materials; reads scripts and evaluates them; assists the Artistic Programs and Dramaturgy Associate in the logging, tracking, and processing of scripts.  This position is also very involved in moderating post show audience discussions after our productions and writing articles for our in house publications.

  • Cover Letters and Recommendations may be addressed to Charles Haugland.

Note about the writing sample for the literary apprenticeship. The writing sample should be 3-10 pages, but may be a combination of several shorter pieces that exhibit different sides of an applicant's voice. The best writing samples for this purpose should be written in the context of a theatrical production, perhaps in the form of a program note, a play review, a script report, or, in the absence of those, an academic paper that references a play or musical; it should not be written in the first person. The writing sample should show a strong voice, an ability to integrate quotations from primary sources, and a point of view on theatre
