Why I Support the Huntington
I support the Huntington because I believe that it contributes enormous cultural value to Boston in the wonderful way it presents both new and classic works in a completely approachable manner, and because of its youth and education programs and involvement with the Boston public schools.
Supporting the Huntington is a family affair for us — my parents have been subscribers for the Huntington’s 27 years, and my wife and I particularly appreciate the way the Huntington’s productions inspire conversation with our children.
In 2009-2010, the Huntington shared seven windows into the American experience by telling uniquely American stories. You can be a part of the story by becoming a Friend of the Huntington today. Ticket income and other earned income only covers 50% of its operating expenses and so the Huntington relies on us as their audience to help raise more than $4 million each season.
And this season, again, the Calderwood Foundation will match all new individual gifts and increased contributions to the Huntington. Please join me in supporting the Huntington. It is a great Boston institution.

I was first introduced to the Huntington as a season subscriber when I moved to Boston, and it quickly presented itself as a gem in the city’s rich cultural landscape. Having been a student of the arts and living in Minneapolis and Provincetown, communities that spent time and money on their arts programs. I know first-hand how live theatre improves our quality of life and brings us closer together.
I have always felt that the arts should be as stimulating as they are comforting. The variety of stories told by American playwrights in the Huntington’s 2009-2010 Season range from the challenging to the engaging to just plain fun — tales of life’s experiences that we can all relate to. That’s what I go to the theatre for.
Beyond attending performances, I’ve had the opportunity to witness first-hand the Huntington's outstanding staff and commitment to world-class productions. In 2009, I was honored to co-chair the Huntington’s gala benefit event — the Spotlight Spectacular! The satisfaction I have felt in getting closer to the
organization has been enormous.
I know you will experience the same satisfaction by becoming a Friend of the Huntington. Ticket and other earned income covers just 50% of operating expenses, and so the Huntington relies on us — the audience — to help raise more than $4 million each season.
Again this season, the Calderwood Foundation will match all new individual gifts, as well as increased contributions from existing supporters. Please join me today in supporting the Huntington — it just feels good.

Theatre is the lifeblood of any community and variety is the lifeblood of any theatre. Thankfully, we have the Huntington Theatre Company for both.
My first experience at the Huntington — almost 20 years ago — was A Christmas Carol , brilliantly staged and still a sparkling memory for our two oldest girls. My personal list of memories include Nathan Lane in Butley, many of the new and adventurous projects at the Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA, August Wilson premieres, remarkable productions with world-class artists such as The Cherry Orchard with the stellar Kate Burton — all extraordinary theatrical events.
Perhaps A Civil War Christmas made your list. The Huntington needs your support to keep producing extraordinary events such as these as earned income covers just 50% of the Huntington’s operating expenses.
The Huntington relies on us — the audience — to help raise more than $4 million each season so it can continue making its great contribution to our community. Again this season, the Calderwood Charitable Foundation will match all new individual gifts, as well as increased contributions from existing supporters, making your gift have even great impact than ever before.
An evening at the Huntington is an evening of expectation, surprise, and drama — it is always exciting. Of course Adrienne and I support such an institution! Please join us.

We were first introduced to the Huntington Theatre Company by attending its world-class productions over the years, but we truly became a part of the Huntington family in 2008 when the theatre produced Dick’s play, Two Men of Florence. The entire experience was spectacular — from the casting of the actors to the long weeks of rehearsals, from the creation of the dazzling set and the glorious costumes to the thrill of Opening Night and the joyous celebration that followed.
In the course of those many weeks, we came to know personally the dozens of people behind the scenes whose dedication and talent was a joy to behold. The steadfast excellence of the Huntington’s productions is a direct result of the love and commitment they bring to their work.
Having now become subscribers and members of the Board, we have come to understand the economics behind these extraordinary productions. Ticket income covers just 50% of operating expenses and so the Huntington relies on us — the audience — to help raise more than $4 million each season. Again this season, the Calderwood Foundation will match all new individual gifts, as well as increased contributions from existing supporters.
Please join us today in supporting the Huntington. It is one of Boston’s most treasured institutions.

There is nothing like live theatre. It lifts our spirits and nourishes our soul. It entertains us and energizes us. And no other theatre company does it like the Huntington.
Inspired by its outstanding work, my husband Douglas and I chose to be become involved with the Huntington nearly ten years ago. We’re so proud to be supporting the actors, directors, designers, and staff who bring world-class excellence to the stage and to our community, which enriches all of our lives.
And it’s not only on stage where the Huntington excels. Its Education Department runs one of the most extensive and admired programs in the country. Its Student Matinee Series, Poetry Out Loud competition, Young Voices Playwriting Workshop, and other meaningful programs will bring the arts to 20,000 middle and high school students this year. At a time when arts cutbacks in our schools have been deep and drastic, the Huntington’s programs are more crucial than ever as they help fill the void.
In doing all of this, ticket income covers just 50% of the Huntington’s operating expenses, and so the Huntington relies on us — its audience — to help raise more than $4 million each year. And to make your support go even further, once again this season the Calderwood Charitable Foundation will match all new individual gifts, as well as increased contributions from those who supported the Huntington last year — making your gift have an even greater impact.
Please join us in supporting the Huntington — a vital cultural cornerstone of our community!
