"Very entertaining, with brilliant performances. Be sure to carve out time to see Persephone!" - WGBH-TV

Meet Demeter, an exquisite statue of the Greek goddess, as she's being created during the Italian Renaissance. Those who admire her see only stone and fortitude, but she has very real thoughts and desires - pining for her lost daughter's return and for the affections of her sculptor Giuseppe. But Giuseppe's too busy lusting after the city's most popular artist's model to notice.

Fast-forward 500 years as Demeter stands in a present-day American city park where she becomes a symbol of hope amidst illicit activity, and a target for more than just pigeons. Witness to hilarious and horrible human foibles, she's desperate for someone, anyone, to hear her thoughts. And when her life seems bleakest, redemption comes in the unlikeliest of forms.

This world premiere comedy introduces Huntington audiences to the irreverent and eccentric wit of Noah Haidle, a truly original voice in American theatre. Haidle's 2005 Off Broadway hit, Mr. Marmalade was hailed by critics and audiences alike, and since then his work has been commissioned by the country's leading theatres. Persephone was a crowd favorite at the Huntington's 2006 Breaking Ground Festival and Nicholas Martin's award-winning direction of Sonia Flew showed what he can do with new plays. Theatre's hottest young writer meets Boston's best director for an outrageous, don't-miss-it show.

Please Note: Persephone contains nudity and adult situations and is intended for mature audiences.

Approximate Running Time: 1 hour and 40 minutes; including 1 intermission
