
LISAGAY HAMILTON (Black Mary) has extensive theatre credits that include Isabella in
Measure for Measure, opposite Kevin Kline and Andre Braugher; and Lady Hotspur in
Henry IV Parts I & II at the New York Shakespeare Festival. She was also an original cast member in the Broadway company of August Wilson’s
The Piano Lesson. Ms. Hamilton earned the Ovation nomination for Best Actress for her work in Athol Fugard’s play
Valley Song at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. For this performance she also earned an Obie Award, The Clarence Derwent Award, and a Drama Desk nomination. Her film credits include
The Truth About Charlie and
Beloved for director Jonathan Demme; Clint Eastwood’s
True Crime; the independent films
Palookaville and
Drunks; Showtime’s
A House Divided, opposite Sam Waterston; and the role of Ophelia in director Campbell Scott’s independent film version of
Hamlet. Ms. Hamilton starred for seven years on the Emmy Award-winning David Kelley drama “The Practice.” She made her prime-time directorial debut on “The Practice,” and the award-winning film “BEAH: A Black Woman Speaks,” which premiered on HBO, marks her documentary directorial debut. Ms. Hamilton is a graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and the Juilliard School of Drama.
