Ennio Marchetto ............
Costume Designer ............
Producer ............
Producer ............

Ennio Marchetto in Ennio! at The Huntington Theatre Company Ennio Marchetto's idea for using costumes made of materials such as paper and plastic came to him while he was studying at the Scuola Dell'Arte, the preparatory school for the Accademia Dell'Arte. His first creation was a "Paper Marilyn." Carefully imitating the gestures and movements of Marilyn Monroe and other characters — always using paper for the costumes, wigs, and props — he started to build up his repertoire. In 1990, he launched his show of living cartoons at the Edinburgh Festival. Mr. Marchetto has a repertoire of over 100 characters, and the show is constantly changing. He has been honored with a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Entertainment, a Drama Desk nomination from the New York critics in the category of Unique Theatrical Experience, and the show has won the Garland Award for Best Costume Design. In the summer of 2001, Mr. Marchetto performed at the White Tie and Tiara Ball, Sir Elton John's AIDS benefit gala. The following year, he again joined Elton John along with José Carreras to perform onboard the luxury cruise ship the Seven Seas Mariner. Mr. Marchetto returned to the U.K. and Ireland in 2003 for a sold-out tour. Granada Television has also produced a film about his life and career which was screened on the ITV network. This year, he returned to Berlin and Hamburg, and had a successful run in Amsterdam. Morrissey invited him to perform as part of his Meltdown line up at the Royal Festival Hall in June. Mr. Marchetto will also perform at this year's Royal Variety Show. To date, he has performed in more than 25 countries around the world.

Sosthen Hennekam studied costume and fashion design at Studio Berçot, and trained as a dressmaker in one of the ateliers for Christian Dior. During this time he also worked for Jean Paul Gaultier, Adeline André and Rei Kawakubo, and Thierry Mugler. After a year and a half he moved to Italy where he saw one of Ennio Marchetto's early shows in Bologna. Their first collaboration was to create new costumes for a TV show, and their partnership blossomed into the creation of an hour-long show. Mr. Hennekam's fashion background enabled him to further develop Mr. Marchetto's basic costumes, allowing them to morph from one character to another on stage. His input also improved the durability and reliability of the costumes, which meant they were suitable for the demands of the stage. The show received its first European outing at the 1990 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. A huge hit, it went on to play seasons in London, culminating in a West End run for which the show was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment. Mr. Hennekam has worked with Mr. Marchetto ever since and his input has become artistic rather than just technical. They develop new characters and routines together, and Mr. Hennekam designs both the soundtrack and the lighting for the show. He is a resident of Venice, works as a website designer, and collaborates with a Venice-based architectural and interior design studio.
