25 Questions for a Jewish Mother

Written by Kate Moira Ryan
with Judy Gold
Directed by Karen Kohlhaas

12/18/2007–12/31/2007
Wimberly Theatre

Actress/comedienne Judy Gold and award-winning playwright Kate Moira Ryan embarked on a five-year journey across the United States, interviewing Jewish mothers of different ages, ethnicities, and occupations. Gold weaves their alternately hilarious and emotional stories with her own experiences as a mother, daughter, and Emmy Award-winning writer. The result is a moving and humorous performance that everyone and their mothers will love.

Judy Gold is an Emmy Award winner for her work on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show," a veteran stand-up comic who hosts HBOO's "At the Multiplex with Judy Gold," and has made numerous appearances on Comedy Central. She recently served as co-host of the documentary Making Trouble: Three Generations of Funny Jewish Women, and was featured in the hit film The Aristocrats. Kate Moira Ryan's other plays include OTMA and Cavedweller. The recipient of numerous fellowships, she is a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.

"Gold captures the audience from the moment she opens her mouth...and soon whips up a rich borscht of vivid characters."The New York Times

"A genuine mitzvah, delivered with equal parts warmth and edge."Time Out New York

"I love 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother so much that if I didn't recommend it, the guilt would consume me." — Better Midler

"25 Questions is riotously funny and ultimately quite moving."Hollywood Reporter

"Judy Gold and Kate Moira Ryan reach beyond their confines of their title to talk about – with canny humor and surprising grace – the nature of parenthood, the immigrant experience, the rudiments of faith, and the cathartic function of comedy." — Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Doug Wright
