Breaking Ground Festival of New Play Readings

April 19 - 22, 2007
Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA

Ground Festival reading of Mauritius.

Join us for the 4th Annual Breaking Ground Festival and be among the first to see a brand new batch of plays-in-development by writers from Boston and around the country. Get in on the ground floor with new plays that will appear on stages near and far in the not-too-distant future, and become part of the playwriting process by participating in post-show discussions with the playwrights.

This year's festival will include six new plays, including four works from Huntington Playwriting Fellows — Alexandros by Melinda Lopez, Claire Silva by John Shea, Parallelogram by Kate Snodgrass, and The Cry of the Reed by Sinan Ünel — as well as Stephen Belber's Geometry of Fire and Matt Hoverman's Searching for God in Suburbia.

Last year, Breaking Ground audiences had a chance to participate in the development of both Theresa Rebeck's Mauritius and Noah Haidle's Persephone before they became a part of the Huntington's current season. They were also treated to an up-close look at the work of actors such as Campbell Scott, Julie White, Mimi Lieber, Denis O'Hare, and Michael T. Weiss, as well as local favorites Will LeBow and Jeremiah Kissel, among many others. In past years, Melinda Lopez's Sonia Flew, Stephen Belber's Carol Mulroney, and Mat Smart's The Hopper Collection have all traveled from a Breaking Ground reading to a full production at the Huntington.
