The Audio Supervisor is a full-time position and will be responsible for assisting Sound Designers and Composers in mounting sound designs and reinforcement, and for providing audio, video, and communications support for all Huntington Theatre Company productions and events. The individual will also be responsible for managing the sound department and managing and maintaining audio/video/communication systems for Huntington Theatre Company and Boston University School of Theatre Arts productions in shared facilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Work with sound designers and composers to realize each design, including conveying house and system information to sound designers. Be the production staff's primary representative to sound designers and composers. When necessary, assist sound designer in planning plot and cable runs.
- Manage sound budget for each show and for department supplies and repairs.
- Arrange rentals and purchases for each show.
- Schedule and arrange all necessary work calls, including hiring over-hire crew as necessary.
- Ensure all regular and over-hire staff working in the sound department use all tools and materials safely, and have and wear appropriate protection equipment. Provide training if necessary.
- Maintain familiarity with industry standard audio technology and possible upgrades to the Huntington's sound equipment. Research and recommend capital acquisitions when appropriate.
- Repair and maintain or arrange for repair and maintenance of all stage communications systems and sound equipment, including hard-wire headsets, wireless headsets, and audio/video paging and monitoring systems.
- Work with the Head of Sound for BU's School of Theatre Arts to manage and realize mutual goals, including arranging sound design assistants for all Huntington Theatre Company productions.
- Train Students in the use of equipment and the duties and skills of the various sound production positions. May be assigned to supervise graduate students within the sound department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a B.A./B.S. in Audio Engineering/Sound Design or equivalent and 3-5 years experience as a professional theatrical Sound Engineer or Designer. Candidates must have knowledge of the specific requirements and conventions of theatrical productions including standard rigging practices, sound reinforcement, production communication systems, and digital editing and recording systems. Candidates should be familiar with equipment and operating systems currently in place at the Huntington Theatre Company, including LCS and SFX control Systems, and Mackie and Yamaha mixing consoles. Supervisory and budgeting experience is required. Must be able to climb ladders to a 60' grid and lift object 50lbs and heavier. Experience in an educational setting preferred, but not required.
The Huntington Theatre Company is seeking talented individuals for future part-time production positions for the 2007-2008 Season. The Master Electrician is responsible for managing the lighting department, and installing systems and equipment for each production. The individual is responsible for supporting Lighting Designers in carrying out the production, and for providing lighting support for all Huntington Theatre Company productions and events in both our venues.
The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with proven experience in professional theatre who displays a great deal of creativeness in problem solving and troubleshooting. This position reports to the Production Manager and is a key player on the production team, responsible for implementing standards and procedures in the lighting department.
The Master Electrician will:
- Work with lighting designers as the production staff's primary contact to realize each design, conveying inventory, system information, and production details.
- Manage lighting budgets for all productions including departmental supplies and repairs.
- Arrange equipment, rentals, and supply purchases for each show.
- Schedule and arrange all necessary work calls; acquire casual labor.
- Plan, prep, and supervise the installation of each production's equipment and systems.
- Develop staff skills and efficiency. May include mentoring students and employees, and developing training plans for staff.
- Work with faculty from B.U.'s School of Theatre to manage and realize mutual goals, arranging lighting assistants and design colloquiums for all Huntington Productions.
- Insure all staff working in the lighting department use all tools and materials safely and use appropriate protection equipment. Provide training if necessary.
- Maintain familiarity with industry standard technology. Research and recommend upgrades and capital acquisitions where appropriate.
- Provide maintenance and repair for all lighting department equipment.
Qualifications:
This position requires a B.A./B.S. in Lighting Design/Technical Production or equivalent and 5 or more years experience as a professional theatrical Master Electrician. Candidates must have knowledge and experience in the specific requirements and conventions of theatrical productions including standard rigging practices.
Candidates should be familiar with equipment and operating systems currently in place at the Huntington Theatre Company; this includes programming and maintenance expertise on ETC control systems including Obsession and express consoles, ETC Net II, Sensor and Unison Dimming, High End moving lights, Wybron Scrollers, and experience with Watchout software and digital projection equipment. Supervisory and budgeting experience is required. Must be able to climb ladders to a 60' grid and lift object 50lbs and heavier. Experience in an higher educational setting preferred.
This senior artistic staff position will oversee all aspects of new play development from play commissions through to production, including overseeing the solicitation and evaluation of scripts. This key member of the artistic staff will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following areas:
- Curating the Breaking Ground Festival of New Plays.
- Providing artistic direction to the summer play development program, which is held each year on Cape Cod and features 1-3 plays scheduled for production on the Huntington mainstage.
- Acting as artistic liaison to the Development and Marketing departments.
- Supervising, and in some cases executing, dramaturgical resources and writings on all mainstage shows for departments across the organization.
- Acting as dramaturg or offer other developmental assistance on the mainstage season.
- Being a team player involved in season planning and artistic strategizing with the Artistic Director, Producing Director, and Artistic Associate.
- Be willing to travel to see work that is of interest to the theater, if called upon.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate should demonstrate strong producing skills and experience with new plays. A B.A. in Theatre or equivalent is required. The successful candidate should have 4-6 years experience in professional non-profit administration or related field. Candidates must have excellent writing and inter-personal skills and be comfortable serving as a representative for the company. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective organizational skills and should possess advanced computer skills, including experience with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
The main purpose of this position is to assist Artistic Director Peter DuBois, and the Artistic staff as required, in any administrative capacity. This individual will be responsible for providing day-to-day administrative office support for the Artistic Director including:
- Coordinating the Artistic Director's schedule.
- Scheduling and booking all travel and travel arrangements (ie: hotels, cabs, rental cars, etc.) for the Artistic Director.
- Coordinating all internal and external communication for the Artistic Director.
- Assisting the Artistic Department in the tracking and maintaining of any submitted materials.
- Organizing both local and university casting sessions.
- Maintaining all casting books and files.
- Supporting the Artistic Director and Artistic staff with special events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a B.A./B.S. or equivalent preferably with a background in theatre. This position require a highly responsible person and requires superior written and oral communications skills, technological literacy, and excellent people skills. A high level of organization and the ability to focus on details and deadlines are a must. Candidate should be adept at effective communication with a variety of constituents. Applicants must be flexible, creative, self-motivated, and willing to work long hours on occasion, sometimes without much notice, in order to help the artistic director or other staff members meet deadlines or manage workload. Candidates must be able to handle confidential information with excellent judgment and discretion. In addition, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated casting experience.
