After School Programs
Know the Law
The Huntington developed Know the Law! in the mid-90s to use theatrical performance as a tool for young people to teach their peers how to make safe decisions when faced with potentially illegal situations.
Today the Huntington supports an in-depth collaboration with Youth and Police in Partnership (YPP), a program of Children's Services of Roxbury, which gives YPP peer leaders high quality training by Huntington-affiliated teaching artists as well as an opportunity to present Know the Law! throughout Greater Boston, including an annual middle school and high school tour, reaching approximately 1,100 Boston students last season.
This season, the Huntington has teamed up with Reinventing Justice, a program of the West Roxbury Courthouse, to produce "You Be the Judge," a video that will be used in classrooms to teach students the importance of cooperating with police and the courts.
Know the Law was designated as a Model Program by Promising Practices in After School Programs (Washington, D.C.) and in 2003 it was awarded a special citation for excellence by the Boston Police Department.
Know the Law is sponsored in part by grants from New Balance and the Shapiro Family Foundation.
