“I decided to become a playwright after seeing August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. I was twelve. I sat in the balcony of The Huntington and saw, for the first time, a story that challenged and affirmed what I knew about how black people fit into the cultural landscape of America. My notions of how black characters fit into American literature melted into the gilt proscenium. The Huntington has always felt like home.”

— Kirsten Greenidge, Huntington Playwriting Fellow and author of Our Daughters, Like Pillars, Luck of the Irish, and Milk Like Sugar

Curriculum Guides

The Huntington provides Curriculum Guides that support several Massachusetts state standards in Theatre to accompany students attending our shows. Student Matinee performances and pre-show workshops provide unique opportunities for experiential learning and support various combinations of the Common Core Standards for English Language Arts. They may also support standards in other subject areas such as Social Studies and History, depending on the individual play’s subject matter.
