Mark Bennett

Mark Bennett has designed Broadway scores for Macbeth, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Dead Accounts, Driving Miss Daisy, A Steady Rain, The Coast of Utopia (2007 Drama Desk Award for outstanding music in a play), Henry IV, Golda’s Balcony, and The Goat or, Who Is Sylvia?, among others. Mr.Bennett’s Off Broadway credits include The City of Conversation, The New Century, Chaucer in Rome, and The Time of the Cuckoo (Lincoln Center Theater), An Iliad (Obie Award), Valhalla, Mad Forest, and My Children! My Africa! (New York Theatre Workshop). He wrote original scores for eight Shakespeare in the Park productions as well as The Seagull and Dogeaters (The Public Theater/NYSF). Mr. Bennett’s scores for La Jolla Playhouse include A Midsummer Night’s Dream (dir. Christopher Ashley, Craig Noel Award), An Iliad (Craig Noel Award), His Gal Friday, and Most Wanted (composer and co-lyricist). His other regional theatre productions include Twelfth Night, Golda’s Balcony, and Pygmalion, and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (The Old Globe), As You Like It (Williamstown Theatre Festival), Dead End, Without Walls, and The House of Bernarda Alba (Center Theatre Group), and Plato’s Symposium (Getty Villa Outdoor Theater). Mr. Bennett was the composer for Sam Mendes’ The Bridge Project (Brooklyn Academy of Music and The Old Vic Theatre). He is the recipient of a 1998 Obie Award for sustained excellence of sound design, a 1998 Bessie Award, the Ovation Award, an Hewes Design Award, and fourteen Drama Desk Award nominations
