Jay O. Sanders

Jay O. Sanders appeared on Broadway in Pygmalion (Alfred Doolittle), St. Joan (Dunois, opposite Maryann Plunkett), The Caine Mutiny Court Martial, and the world premiere of Loose Ends, and has worked in London at Royal Court Theatre in Abel’s Sister. His Off Broadway credits include the world premiere of The Exonerated; the New York premieres of Stuff Happens (George W. Bush — Drama Desk Award for Best Ensemble), Three Birds Alighting on a Field, and Buried Child; as well as Hamlet; A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Bottom — St. Clair Bayfield Award); King John; The Argument; Lone Star Love; and The Taming of the Shrew. In 2003, he appeared on Boston Common as the title role in Macbeth (Commonwealth Shakespeare Company). Mr. Sanders’ film credits include Revolutionary Road, Cadillac Records, Greetings from the Shore, Half Nelson, The Day After Tomorrow, Tumbleweeds, JFK, Kiss the Girls, Music of the Heart, The Matchmaker, Meeting Venus, For Richer or Poorer, Daylight, Angels in the Outfield, Mr. Destiny, Glory, Tucker, Edge of Darkness (with Mel Gibson), I Hate Valentine’s Day (with Nia Vardalos), and Poundcake (with Kathleen Quinlan). His television credits include “Damages,” “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” “Roseanne,” Picnic, “Wonderland,” Hostages, The Salem Witch Trials, and Jamie’s Dad. He has narrated over 70 audio-books, numerous episodes of WGBH’s “NOVA,” and is the voice of the Emmy Award-winning WNET documentary series “Wide Angle.” He is the author of a play called Unexplored Interior about the genocide in Rwanda, and holds a B.F.A. in theatre from S.U.N.Y. at Purchase.
